Quand Henri Dunant a assisté en 1854 à la bataille de Solférino (hé oui, déjà !), il a pu mesurer le carnage des nouvelles armes. Et lorsqu’il réunit à Genève les fondateurs du futur CICR, il est question d’un signe distinctif permettant aux infirmiers de se déplacer sur les champs de bataille avec le respect d’une neutralité. Rappelant la Suisse, il a été décidé de prendre son drapeau inversé. Est née la Croix-Rouge.
